Restricted Key Control

About Restricted Key Control

With restricted key control protections are set up to prevent the creation of new keys for the lock to which the key belongs. Manufacturers set up restricted levels of sales and distribution for these keys and they are often protected by patents, which preclude others from making new productions of the key. The rules around these keys are governed by local law often, and frequently identification must be provided before a new is made.

Restricted key controls then are useful in situations where the security requirements of the facility dictate the need for ensuring that duplicates of the keys do not fall into the wrong hands. They are commonly used to for, example, restrict the manufacture of mail box keys.

They also have many commercial applications. And there are other types of highly secure types of commercial locks systems as well, such as traditional access control solutions. Some of these solutions are monitored and managed via computer systems that can be either used for a single building full of doors, or a widely distributed group of buildings with hundreds or thousands of doors.

There are also perhaps those best known as the traditional card key system. These systems are designed to work in commercial settings in a way that traditional locks do not. For example, business owners do not have to worry about rekeying a lock every time an employee leaves, nor do they have to worry about what has happened to keys that have been lost by employees. And they reduce the worry about having to ensure all the doors to a building are locked at the end of the day.

Among the more sophisticated alternatives there is also the biometric reader. Biometric readers work by electronically unlocking a lock after verifying a person’s identity by some kind of biological trait. The most commonly known example of a biometric reader is one that will open lock after verifying the person by their retina, or thumb print. Even some personal computers and laptops have this type of lock device built into them.

For more than four thousand years, the locksmith craft has been inventing new ways to keep the bad guys out without making it impossible for the good guys to get in and the restricted key control system is one of the more relatively recent innovations in this area.

There are many different locksmith solutions and security solutions available today, which are tailored for the particular needs of the application. Not all locks are designed to perform the same function. Some are relatively simple; others are quite sophisticated. But whatever the case, be sure to work with a locksmith who is certified and has specialized experience in the type of security need you have. There certainly are varying degrees of experience in locksmiths, and there are also are those with widely diverse areas of expertise. With some of the more sophisticated options in particular, it is important to check the credentials of the lock smith.
